Short description:

The University of Debrecen, Doctoral School of History and Ethnology, provides opportunities to pursue a scientific (PhD) qualification in two disciplines within the Humanities. The History Programme and the Ethnology Programme endeavor to support students in extending their research activities and establishing a stable and professional background for young researchers to achieve success in their respective fields.

Within the History Programme, students have the option to acquire knowledge and conduct research in areas such as Hungarian and world history, social and economic history, the history of political ideas and institutions, and ancient history and arts. Additionally, the structure of the Ethnology Programme ensures learning and research opportunities in cultural ecology and anthropology, religious history, and the study of peoples, regions, and cultures in Central Europe.

The Doctoral School of History and Ethnology does not require a specific degree for application. This means that we accept not only History (MA) and Ethnology (MA) degrees but also all degrees related to the chosen research field. We grant applicants the opportunity to request an external supervisor.
